Chickens and the Gardens

Yesterday we planted our Pumpkins, Corn and a Gourd.   In all we planted 5 rows of Corn, two pie pumpkins, two big pumpkins, and 1 gourd.

We let the chickens roam the backyard yesterday until it started sprinkling.  Here are some pictures.  :)
Hennie (in the back), Betty (in the front) and Polly (on the right.  She might just turn into a Paul though because she might be a rooster!)

The 'Girls'!

Tonight we went out to visit the fillies and Jewel.  My mom braided Jewel's mane and tail.  Goldie is getting considerably better.  She can walk around and is eating on pasture now.  Goldie is truly a symbol of God's grace.  She is skin and bones but she will get better.  :)  And then Misty....She is a whole other story.  Misty always looks pretty but she kinda has this air of prissiness and spunk.  Sometimes I just want to say to her "get over yourself!"  :)  But she is still the sweetest horse (and the prettiest.  Just don't tell Jewel or my grandpa!)

Standing pretty.

I like to think of Goldie as the 'little midget' horse.  :)

She gets better everyday!

Poor thing is skin and bones from her rattlesnake bite.  :(

She just gets prettier and prettier.

"Sydnee, I have been standing here forever!"

The Guineas are here!!!

My parents picked up two Guineas today.  We couldn't put them with the chicks because they were trying to peck at them so they are by themselves right now until they get big enough to be with the chicks.  I put my chick Betty with the Guineas and she freaked out because she was away from the other chicks....and she almost stepped on one of the Guineas head because she wasn't looking where she was going.   Names to be determined.  :)

I just figured out that one of the Buff Orpingtons (the golden colored ones) is a rooster!

Loggerhead Turtles

This morning when I was slowly waking up I heard about a turtle nest that had been laid on the beach almost right outside the little cottage we were staying at.  It was so fun to see the egg, markings, and nest that the Loggerhead had laid overnight.
Loggerheads are protected by the Federal government

The marked site.  You are not allowed to disturb it.

Turtle tracks!  That should be a new ice cream flavor....

Tracks coming up from the beach!

Turtle egg.  The 'Turtle Patrol' got it out to show us when they came by to mark and check the site this morning.

Whole dug to get egg out.

The eggs are about the size of a Ping Pong ball and there are over 100 eggs per nest!
